There are a number of reasons why a person may have to get an SR22 insurance policy including too many speeding tickets, driving without insurance, excessive accumulation of points on one’s driver’s license, driving under the influence, and various other reasons.

Sooner or later the people that are required to have an SR22 filing with their local DMV before their license will be reinstated start hearing from friends, family, and doing some research on their own that their insurance is going to be a lot more expensive than their insurance policy was before. The question is how much more expensive?

The average cost of an SR22 insurance policy is going to depend on the reason why your license was suspended or revoke for in the first place. If you are a DUI offender who has to get an SR22 to get your license back, the cost is going to depend on a number of factors including:

Was this a first, second, third, or more offense?

Was there an accident?

Did the accident result in injuries to any other person?

These are just a couple of examples of the items your insurance company is going to look at when quoting you a price on your SR22 insurance for a DUI offense. A standard first offense DUI offender should expect to pay between 3 and 5 times as much per month for their high-risk auto insurance as they were paying on their regular auto insurance rates. So if you were paying $50 a month for your car insurance before the DUI offense, you should expect to pay between $150 and $250 a month for the next 3-years following the reinstatement of your license following your suspension or revocation period.

If the DMV is requiring you to file an SR22 with them for something like too many speeding tickets. Even though your offense of too many speeding tickets is not as severe as someone who has to file an SR22 because of a DUI offense, the required filing period is still going to be 3-years. So your relationship with your SR22 insurance is going to be for an extend period of time. Your SR22 insurance rates for something like too many speeding tickets will be lower than the rates for a DUI offense, but they will be at least 1 to 2 times or more than you are currently paying for your car insurance.

There are steps you can take to be sure that you are paying the least amount possible per month for your insurance. The first thing you need to do is to not assume that your current insurance provider is going to have the lowest rates possible for your SR22. Just because you may have been with this insurance company for years and they have always treated you fairly does not mean that will be the case when it comes to quoting you on an SR22 insurance policy, if they even offer SR22 insurance filings because not every insurance company does.

What you need to do is spend a little time researching your state DMV SR22 insurance filing requirements. Then get at least 3 to 5 quotes from the various insurance providers in your area that offer SR22 insurance filings then all you have to do is choose the policy with the lowest price, it’s that simple.

2044

Each state has its own laws regarding SR22 insurance filing requirements, so it’s critical that you learn what must be done to file an SR22 in your state. For example, someone who is required to file SR22 insurance in Florida will have to follow a different set of rules then someone who is filing in Virginia.

The first thing to remember if you are pulled over for a DUI is that this charge is not just a traffic ticket. Depending on the state it could be a felony and in all states it is at least a misdemeanour. A criminal charge is a much more serious situation than a traffic citation. Your immediate concern should not be losing your license but getting convicted on a criminal charge.

At The Arrest

Keeping in mind this is not the same as a speeding ticket, it is best that you exercise your right to remain silent if you have in fact been operating the vehicle while under the influence. Many people are amazingly honest in their answer to “have you been drinking” and this admission gives the officer probable cause for the criminal charge of DUI.

Understand you do not resist arrest; you simply exercise your right to remain silent. In most states if you refuse to take a breathalyzer you are assumed to be operating under the influence. There are also separate sanctions for refusing. When you are actually arrested, ask for counsel.

The general rule is to cooperate without admitting anything. Do not give any false information. If you say you had nothing to drink when you did, and they discover that in the test, they have you with a false statement even if you are legally sober.

What Happens To Your Driver’s License

It depends on the state. Your license will probably be taken from you and a paper receipt issued. The same may apply to your license tag on your car. Your DMV is going to take action against you and they will probably move faster than the court case. If you don’t respond to their notices, or if you have no idea how to deal with those proceedings, there is an excellent chance that you will lose your driving privileges.

It is imperative to get an experienced and qualified counsel to help you through both the criminal aspect and the DMV action. Without representation you could both lose you license and your freedom.

What is the average cost of sr-22 insurance ??

i need to sr-22 to get my license back after 7 years w/o driving. i lost it in 2001 due to a dui, and haven't driven since. its finally time for me to start my life over, and this is a major step to do it. i learned from the dmv (ca) that i need the sr-22 + insurance, and just a 125.00$ reinstatement cost. i know there are a lot of factors to consider, but just an idea of the cost would be great.

If you are one of the many people struggling to pay bills these days then you will probably be interested in finding affordable car insurance online. By searching online for your car insurance you have more of a variety and a better chance to get lower payments. There are thousands of companies that you can choose from when doing an Internet search.

Before choosing a car insurance company you should be sure to get several quotes from several different companies. The reason this is so important is that many companies will offer the same type of coverage for different prices You can do a search on the Internet for car insurance companies and many will give you a free quote.. With the way everyone is struggling with finances saving money is important.

All states require that you have at least liability but some states require more than that. You will have to call your local DMV to find out what coverage you have to have. When deciding on the type of insurance coverage for your vehicle you will need to find out what the legal minimum coverage is for your state.

You can get a good drivers discount if you have not had any wrecks or citations in three or four years. You can also get a multiple vehicle discount if you have more than one vehicle insured .There are also several ways to get discounts on car insurance so be sure to ask the insurance companies to include any discounts you may be eligible for into the quote.

You should also make sure that your teen takes a drivers education class at school if they offer it because you will also get a discount for that. If you have a teenager on your insurance your premiums will be extremely high but if your teen makes good grades you can ask about the good student discount. Once you get your quotes and you choose an insurance company you will need to purchase your insurance.

You can usually purchase the insurance online. You will have to answer some basic questions and make your first payment before you are covered. The insurance company will send your insurance information through the mail and you should make sure it stays in your vehicle. Sometimes you can even print out proof of insurance to keep in your vehicle until the companies sends your insurance card.

What is SR 22 Insurance?

Frank

The Woodlands, TX.

Frank,

SR22 insurance is what you have to have after you have been convicted of a DUI/DWI. It will let the DMV know that you are now insured. This is now considered high risk insurance.

A SR22 essentially is a written agreement that is put in place between the DMV and a specific insurance company. The agreement states that the insurance company has provided accurate coverage for your specific needs. The agreement also states that if for any reason whatsoever, the insurance company is no longer providing your coverage, they must contact the DMV and let them know. After the DMV has received the notice, they will generally suspend the offender’s license again.

Thank you Frank.
